Over the past two months I have been expanding my musical horizon. I’ve been dabbing my toes and ears in the R&B, Jazz, HipHop, Latin pool ever since I was a youngin’, I took a swim in other pools, but overall my record collection is filled with these genres (along the classics from other pools like a Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Patsy Cline, the Beatles). But over the past months I’ve been into the Folk wave and Lo-Fi stuff. I am really feeling Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Belle & Sebsastian.
What I’m also feeling is the new commercial ad Audi put out for the latest Q5 model. I love the clever animation, the transformation of the cardboard box, but most of all I am intrigued and amused by the song used in the commercial. I’ve been humming that tune mulitple times a day. So I decided to consult my all knowing sensei Google. Turns out is an old folk song, by like the folk guru Woody Guthrie. Mr. Guthrie is the most important American Folk Artist of the first half of the 20th century, inspiring the likes of Bruce Springsteen & Bob Dylan. I think his most famous song for non-Americans is ‘This Land‘ and now ‘Riding In My Car’ has been added to the list.
Okay, so I have a confession to make … I am not much of a Star Wars fan (so I guess that makes me a fake-geek huh). Yes yes, I plead guilty. I just never gotten around to see the first trilogy, from beginning to the end (saw two of the last ones though, I was pressured!). I think, I remember seeing one of them when I was five, but Jabba the Hut scared the lil Kim out of me, and frankly that’s all I can recall. So I found this clip (points up at the first clip) on vimeo.com explaining the first trilogy in a nutshell by a girl who’s only seen bits and pieces. After seeing that clip I probably been talked up to speed.
Then, I remember I saw this clip of a 3 year old explaining the first movie (clip below). So then I figured why bother? These two lovely gals taught me every I need to know, about ewoks, pokey balls, obee kanoooobi, R2D2 and that wise green shrunken wrinkled muppet.
Hmmm, on second thought maybe I should put IV, V and VI on my to see list along side Lord of the Rings (yeah I haven’t seen those either!). Mind you I have seen Space Balls … TRICE! and enjoyed it.

Growing up I played a lot of video games with my older cousin (whom I admired cause he was the coolest). Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis. Since he was older and wiser it started out with me watching how he played on the NES and playing the role of navigator (wing-man, you know like in those Dakar Rally races). He was Zelda and I was keeping track in which cave we already went in to and were to go next. Even with Double Dragon I was always Jimmy Lee never Billy.
Then came the Super NES owee what a beauty, it had four colorful buttons and two on top and not to mention you could see the game cartridge. This was also the moment that Street Fighter entered my life, finally a game I could really actively participate in and hope to kick my cousin’s butt at a game. Truth be told I didn’t always win, but I held my own and drove him to frustration many times. Being a girl, Chun-Li (next to Guile) was my favorite character to play with.
So it was very joyful news when I read they were going to make a movie about her (SWEEEEEEET). Yeah yeah yeah , I know back in the nineties there was this horrible movie with Jean Claude van Damme and Kylie Minogue playing Chun-Li, but my gut tells me that this one will be worth watching. First off cause the plot isn’t as lame, second it’s about Chun-Li and third Chun-Li is being played by Kristin Kreuk, you know that girl that plays Clark Kent’s secret love interest in Smallville. Juicy details she has a purple belt in Karate so the fight sequences might actually look convincing.
Anyway I can’t wait!
They are really squeeeezing all the juice out of the gaming, comic, cartoon fruit aren’t day, I mean Wolverine, Legend Of Zelda, Dragon Ball Z, Metal Gear Solid, G.I. Joe are all coming out in 2009. And there are loads more I haven’t named like Transformers 2 and Watchmen.
